Abstract

For efficient, high power (≳1 kW) operation of CO lasers, cryogenic gas cooling is generally required. Many reports on room temperature operation have been appeared for diffusion cooled or slow flow CO lasers,1-3 but the available laser outputs have been limited considerably. Very recently, high power operations at room temperature were reported for an axial flow, microwave discharge excited CO laser4 and a transverse flow, rf discharge excited CO laser,5 both being based on the convective gas cooling. In this paper we report efficient, room temperature operation of closed, fast axial flow, rf discharge excited CO laser with high specific output.
