Abstract
Several properties of As2S3 glass make this material an attractive candidate for Er-doped planar waveguide devices operating in the 1550-nm range. These properties include1 infrared transparency, high refractive index, ease of thin film deposition, and the ability to pattern waveguides by the pho- todarkening technique.
