Abstract
Optical parametric oscillators (OPO) pumped by femtosecond titaniurm:sapphire (Ti:S) lasers have been demonstrated to be efficient and practical devices for extending the tuning range of Ti:S sources.1 However, to date no Ti:S pumped OPO has operated in the 3-4.5-μm frequency region which is of paramount interest for molecular studies in liquids and solids. Furthermore, the necessity of reaching threshold of oscillation in an OPO reduces freedom in regard to the control of the infrared pulse duration.
