Abstract
We present here a novel single longitudinal mode laser that is a magneto-optic mode twisted and gain switched Nd:BGO laser pumped by laser diode (LD). Nd:BGO is a promising laser medium as well as a useful magneto-optic material. Its stimulated cross section and fluorence lifetime is 1.34 × 10−19 cm2 and 320 µs respectively. The wavelength of peak absorption is 810 nm with an absorption coefficient (α) of 6 cm−1 for l.wt% Nd doping. The magneto-optic properties are very attractive. The Verdet constant is 0.033 min-cm−1 G−1, which exceeds that of quartz and high lead glass. Making use of the magneto-optic properties of Nd:BGO, we designed a single longitudinal mode oscillator.
