Abstract
There is current interest in the development of solid-state lasers that operate in a wide spectral range from visible to IR by pumping both by flashlamp and laser diodes. The most promising materials for UV, visible, and IR lasers are rare-earth-doped double fluoride lithium-yttrium crystals (LiYF4-TR3+ or YLF- TR3+). They have high UV transparency, low crystal growth temperature and can be grown easily of good optical quality.
