Abstract

For coherent free-space optical communication, frequency-stable lasers are required. The knowledge of the absolute laser frequency simplifies the pointing and acquisition process of a satellite-based communication system. In order to realize such a system based on the phase-shift-keying technique (PSK) a laser bandwith less than 100 kHz. is necessary for a bit error rate of 10-9 and a data rate of 1 GHz/s.
