Abstract

We report on a new holographic photopolymer/liquid crystal system that exhibits some interesting optical, electro-optical, and thermal properties. The system is a prepolymer syrup consisting of dipentaerythrol hydroxy penta acrylate monomer, a crosslinking agent N-vinyl pyrrolidone, a photoinitiator Rose Bengal, a coinitiator N-phenyl glycine, and the liquid crystal (LC) E7. Rose Bengal is ideally suited for writing holographic gratings with an argon ion laser as its absorption spectrum extends from 400 run to 550 nm, with a peak at 490 nm.
