Abstract

The potential of optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) and optical parametric amplifiers (OPAs) has been known for decades, but despite this, realizing actual devices that can be used in real applications has been difficult. One common drawback of demonstrated OPOs: is that their spectral bandwidth is too broad for many applications. The two main approaches to controlling the bandwidth of OPOs are injection-seeding and the use of dispersive intracavity elements.1,2 With the advent of new nonlinear materials and. better quality single-frequency pump lasers, these two "old" techniques have been revisited, resulting in a variety of single-frequency OPO devices suitable for spectroscopy, remote sensing, and other applications.
