Tunable synchronized femtosecond pulses in the near Infrared by difference frequency generation

Abstract

Recently broadband and independent tunability of two synchronized cw femtosecond sources lias been reported based on synchronous pumping of an infrared dye laser by a self mode-locked Ti:sapphirc laser.1 We demonstrate synchronous pumping of a blue-green, dye laser by the second harmonic of a commercial femtosecond Ti:sapphire laser. The relatively large frequency shift between the fundamental of the Ti:sapphire laser and the dye laser output allows different frequency generation of widely tunable femtosecond pulses in the near infrared that are synchronized to the master oscillator. In particular, we obtain 1.50 fs pulses tunable in the region 1230 nm-1760 nm with a single dye.
