Abstract

We have demonstrated the x-ray generation of carbon VI Lyman α line (λ =. 3.37 nm) using a table-top high-rep., high energy glass laser system. This system can focus a laser pulse of 6 J on the target surface within less than 50 μ m diameter in 4 ns at 5 pps, and so can generate an x-ray from the laser produced plasma1. The x-ray wavelength is in the area of spectra so called "Water Window" (2.3-4.4 mn), and is suited for the x-ray source of a microscope for living things. The x-ray spectrum taken by the CCD camera combined with a transmission grating is shown in Fig. 1. The quantum efficiency of the detector has been absolutely calibrated by synchrotron radiation.
