Abstract

A collaborative effort among universities, industry, and government is investigating alternatives to gigabit/second (Gbit/sec) network architectures and their application utility. Five testbeds axe being coordinated by the Corporation for National Research Initiatives, funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), and by industry. The testbeds, Aurora, Blanca, Casa, Nectar, and Vistanet, are located in different regions of the. U.S.. and have differing research agendas. The focus of the overall project is on relatively near-term technologies that permit testbed experimentation.
