Generation of tunable subpicosecond VUV radiation by a compact excimer laser-pumped system

Abstract

Recently the generation of ultrashort pulses tunable in the VUV spectral range by four wave difference frequency mixing has been reported.1 For the frequency conversion process xenon was excited energetically near resonant to the two-photon 5p-6p transition by a femtosecond KrF excimer laser. The idler pulse was generated by an independent nanosecond dye laser, which had to be synchronized to the KrF laser.
