Abstract

Cr3+-doped colquiriite lasers similar to the Ti:sapphire Laser possess bandwidtlis that are larger than necessary for producing subpicosecond pulses. However, the difference in their dispersion properties, especially the smaller nonlinear refractive index of the fluorides created doubts about the possibility to achieve self-mode-locking and sustained operation without additional mode-locking devices in the cavity.
