Abstract

Recently increasing interest has developed over the propagation of gap solitons in nonlinear periodic, dielectric media (NPDM), The existence of spatial solitons in NPDM with nonlinearity was first investigated by Chen and Mills1 vising a computer simulation. Such optical solitons are referred to as gap solitons. The solitons found by Chert- Mills, however, are basically stationary spatial solitons. Later, do Sterke et al.2 and Christodulides et al.3 showed that it is possible to propagate moving solitons in NPDM.
