Self-aligning injection locking of a laser diode array

Abstract

Free running laser diode arrays emit laser beams of poor spatial and spectral quality. We improve both by injecting the beam from a single mode diode laser into the Laser diode array, using a mutually pumped phase conjugator to connect the two lasers. Ordinarily injection locking of a laser diode array is a tricky business, because one must inject the light at exactly the correct angle, position and frequency,1 However, by using a phase conjugator to connect the two lasers, we eliminate these problems.
