Abstract
Optical parametric oscillator (OPO) devices, pumped by nanosecond-pulsed lasers and based on gain media such as β-barium borate (BBO), enable coherent wavelength generation with high efficiency over a broad spectral range. As shown in Fig, 1 the .fundamental tuning range (0.41-2.6 µm) of a BBO OPO is pumped by 355-nm pulsed laser radiation. Also shown is the extended ultraviolet tuning range (~0.2-0.4 µm) attained1 by nonlinear optical second-harmonic generation (SHG) or sum-frequency generation (SFG) in BBO, KDP, or KD*P.
