Abstract
An experimental study of two-photon (TP) transitions from the 3H4 ground state to the 3PJ (J = 0,1,2) and 1I6 manifolds within the 4f2 ground configuration of Pr3+ in Y3Al5O12(YAG) is presented. The single crystal Pr3+:YAG sample used in this experiment was grown by the Czochralski method and contained 0.4% of Pr3+ ions. The 1064-nm radiation from a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, and the output of a tunable infrared dye laser pumped by the second harmonic of the Nd:YAG laser were used in a collinear, over- lapping geometry to excite the transitions. The two-photon excitation (TPE) spectrum was measured by monitoring the 3P0 → 3H4 single-photon emission around 488 nm as a function of the dye laser wavelength, which was tuned continuously from 780 to 920 nm.
