Abstract

We previously described a copper hybrid laser of 45 mm bore, and 150 cm active length, which generated 121 W at 2.2% efficiency. In a hybrid laser, the halide is produced in situ in the laser active region by reaction of HBr with pieces of copper metal. We have scaled the active volume of the hybrid laser by increasing the bore and length of the laser, and now report its operating characteristics.
