Abstract

Recently there has been considerable interest in modelocking solid-state lasers using intracavity nonlinearities. Fast saturable absorber modelocking has been achieved in Ti:Al2O3 using nonlinear self focussing in the gain medium combined with an intracavity aperture. This technique has been termed Kerr-Lens-modelocking (KLM)1.
