Abstract

The generation, of picosecond high power single optical pulses is a problem of increasing importance in different kinds of laser sensor application. It is particularly important in short-range laser radar systems for making reliable distance measurements with millimeter accuracy as well as for 3D-contour mapping of hot targets with low reflectivity, where optical pulses much less than 1 ns pulsewidth and maximum possible peak power exceeding 10 W are desirable.1-3
