Abstract
Nonlinear crystals based on the borate class of host materials have properties making them ideal for use in efficient optical parametric oscillators (OPOs) to allow continuous tuning from the near UV well into the IR regions of the spectrum. In particular, the biaxial crystal LiB3O5 (LBO) offers a large damage threshold, large acceptance angles and nonlinearities, and small double refraction angles, as well as noncritical phase matching and temperature tunability.
