Spectrally dispersed amplified spontaneous emission with spatial incoherency for uniform target irradiation at Gekko XII

Abstract

The uniformity of multibeam irradiation on a spherical target is analytically defined by the products of two factors, depending on the individual beam pattern and geometric arrangement of the beams.1 The nonuniformity of ablation pressure should not exceed a few % to suppress the hydrodynamic instability. For direct-driven fusion, the spatial envelope profile of an individual beam at the target surface should be controlled to reduce the effect of the geometric factor caused by the finite number of beams.
