Abstract
Barium titanate (BaTiO3) single crystal is a particularly attractive photorefractive material because it exhibits large values of beam coupling gain and four-wave mixing reflectivity. To use this crystal for optical devices, the preparation of the crystal—aimed at improving and controlling its photorefractive properties—has been studied.1-3 Though recent papers1-3 expressed that doping transition-metal element and/or post-growth annealing in an atmosphere of controlled oxygen partial pressure could modify its photorefractive properties, the effect of crystal growth atmosphere on the properties has not been reported to date. Therefore, we grew the crystals in various oxygen pressures and then measured the photorefractive effect of those crystals.
