Abstract
A new Cr3+-doped laser host Gd3(In, Ga)2Ga3O12 has been discovered. High optical quality single crystals with 5-mm dimension have been grown by the flux method. Absorption and luminescence measurements taken over a wide temperature range indicate that GIGG is a host with a lower crystal-field than GSGG and is a potential solid-state room temperature tunable laser material operating in the red and near-infrared regions.
