Abstract

Photonic switching array based on the quantum-confined Stark effect (QCSE) of multiple quantum well (MQW) structures is one of the most promising devices for parallel optical signal processing. We have already demonstrated all-optical bit pattern matching using exciton absorptive reflection switch (EARS) arrays consisting of vertically integrated MQW reflection modulators and phototransistors.1 The devices operate as optical three-terminal switches with high contrast ratio and optical gain.2 In this paper ·we demonstrate all-optical waveform regeneration using a new version of EARS arrays with a memory function.
