Abstract

The barium vapor laser (BVL) is a high duty cycle (~10 kHz) pulsed laser source capable of generating high average power (1–10 W) and high peak power (1–100 kW) with high efficiency (~0.5%) at several wavelengths spanning the 1–5-μm spectrum. The BVL is of interest for a wide variety of remote sensing and medical use and for optical fiber testing.
