Abstract

Sunlight represents a formidable background for laser receivers in free space/atmospheric/oceanic electro-optical systems. Atomic resonance filters possess highly desirable properties that improve the performance of such systems, namely, ultranarrow optical bandwidths (−0.01 Å), large apertures, and wide fields of view.1 However, the conventional atomic fitter has a response time that is limited by the radiative decay process, i.e., longer than − 10ns, and it does not lend itself to imaging uses.
