Fast Hankel transformation of high accuracy for optical beam propagation

Abstract

The calculation of optical beam propagation in cylindrical geometry can be reduced to the evaluation of a Hankel transform. Since the Hankel transform must often be applied repeatedly, as, for example, in resonator-mode calculation, computational efficiency and accuracy are the main issues. An efficient algorithm, called the fast Hankel transform (FHT), was described by Siegman1 and improved by Agrawal and Lax2 through the addition of end correction terms.
