Abstract
We will present here a unique high power, all solid-state femtosecond source that is tunable, demonstrates high efficiency, and has a very low background. This source, based on Ti:Al2O3 and alexandrite, produces 10–300 GW, 100-fs pulses. To the best of our knowledge this is the first all solid-state source, excluding pump lasers, producing high power, femtosecond pulses. We believe that this kind of system is more powerful and even more reliable then femtosecond dye systems and has the potential of becoming the workhorse for both femtosecond spectroscopy and high intensity physics.
