Abstract

Since the early 1970’s, there has been a continued effort to develop a Short Wavelength Chemical Laser (SWCL). The efficient channeling of chemical energy into excited electronic states remains the primary technical challenge of SWCL research. In general, there are two approaches for accomplishing this: (1) direct chemical excitation and (2) energy transfer from a metastable partner.
