Abstract

There is presently a lack of a coherent radiation source in the 3–5μm region. In this paper, we present experimental results on the generation of 4-μm radiation by difference-frequency mixing between two Nd:YAG lasers. The experimental setup is shown in Fig. 1. The pump is provided by a 1.06-μm Nd:YAG laser, based on a positive-branch, unstable resonator. The 50-cm-long, unstable resonator has a magnification of 1.25 and a variable reflectivity mirror (VRM) as output coupler.
