Abstract
STI is developing a solid-state laser system to generate narrow-band, tunable blue light by mixing the tunable narrow-band output of an injection-seeded Ti:sapphire laser with the 1064nm output from an injection-seeded Nd:YAG laser. The Ti:sapphire laser is pumped by 532-nm light from another frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser, and, therefore, the overall system represents a solid-state frequency upconverter for 1064-nm light. The mixing architecture demonstrated here has the advantage that it can be tuned to hit both the Cs atomic resonance filter at 455/459 nm as well as the other wavelengths of interest for underwater communications (such as the Fraunhoffer line at 486 nm).
