Abstract

Progress of optical switches or modulators made of semiconductor materials is expected for further development of opto electronics. Investigations of switching phenomena other than so-called Franz-Keldysh or the quantum-confined Stark effect are also important to get a higher extinction ratio with a wider wavelength range for operation.
