Abstract
Large photoconductive semiconductor switches (PCSSs) are being developed for high-power (10 MW-100 GW) applications that demand high reliability (108 shots), fast-rise times (100 ps), low jitter (50 ps), high-repetition rates (10 kHz–100 MHz), and efficient optical activation. We have tested a variety of silicon and GaAs switches in the linear-switching mode (where one absorbed photon creates one electron-hole pair).
