Stark-shifted excitonic optical nonlinearities in a hetero-nipi containing strained InAs/GaAs superlattice quantum wells

Abstract

Strained quantum wells fabricated from the ternary alloy InGaAs and all-binary InAs/GaAs superlattices are currently of interest for potential use as all-optical switches and modulators. It is possible that some enhancement of the optical nonlinearities may be obtained by placing the quantum wells in a hetero nipi structure, thereby-exploiting the Stark shift of the excitonic peaks rather than excitonic saturation.
