Femtosecond excitonic field mapping in GaAs quantum wells

Abstract

The exciton in quantum wells is a sensitive ultrafast detector of electric fields in quantum wells.1 Using a probe beam focused to the diffraction limit, information can be obtained about the microscopic internal fields in semiconductor devices. Much needs to be learned about how ultrafast electrical transients are generated, propagated, and detected in systems which incorporate metal-semiconductor contacts.
