Abstract
Active media with tube geometry provide a number of advantages for high-power solid-state lasers. A large volume of active material can be cooled very efficiently through the large surface of the tube. The size of Nd:YAG boules is limited, and by using Nd:YAG tubes rather than rods or slabs, a higher output power per laser crystal is possible. Nevertheless, very little research has been carried out on solid-state lasers using annular gain media.1,2
