Abstract

We report the first operation (to our knowledge) of a diode pumped Nd:glass regenerative amplifier. The regenerative amplifier amplifies the output of a cw mode-locked diode pumped Nd:glass oscillator. Because of its broad spectral linewidth the Nd:glass regenerative amplifier is ideal for the amplification of short laser pulses. Previous systems, which utilized argon-ion pumping, produced subpicosecond pulses at energies of 10 μJ.1 Diode pumping offers the advantages of reduced size and drastically improved efficiency.
