New sensor: the bent biconically tapered single-mode optical fiber

Abstract

Tapered single-mode optical fibers have been used in a number of applications; however, little research has been related to the bend sensitivity. In this study, the bend sensitivity was quantified, correlated with theory, and employed to sense both pressure and magnetic field variations.
