Abstract

We recently reported on an acoustooptic (AO) frequency shifting scheme utilizing AO Bragg diffractions in cascade and realized a guided-wave passband AO frequency shifter with a center frequency of 1 GHz and a bandwidth of 165 MHz.1 In some applications, for example, in a fiber optic gyroscope,2 baseband frequency shifters with frequency shift centered at the optical carrier frequency are desired, however. We report on a novel baseband AO frequency shifter which provides frequency shifting from —61 to 60 MHz with the frequency shifted light spatially fixed.
