Abstract
The existence of J0 Bessel function solutions to the Helmholtz wave equation was shown by Durnin1 some time ago. Durnin et al. also presented some first experimental verifications.2 We present a more extensive set of data taken in a wide variety of experimental conditions, including widely different regimes of wavelengths and pulse widths. We have also explored efficient Bessel beam generation techniques, such as the unstable resonators whose annular outputs are ideally suited for this purpose.
