Abstract

The laser transmitter module we are building for the NASA LITE Space Shuttle pallet payload is scheduled for launch in 1993. The most critical design drivers from a system point of view are: optical alignment stability to maintain oscillator output and harmonic generator tuning as well as to keep all three beams (1064, 532, and 355 nm) within the field of view of the telescope; optical output energy and its stability (1064 nm > 400 mj, 532 nm > 400 mj, 355 nm >150 mj); optical output beam divergence and its stability; weight; electrical power consumption; electromagnetic interference; contamination control in a sealed canister; and safety.
