Abstract

Picosecond and femtosecond pulses can be derived from cw diode laser signals using induced modulational instability1 or through soliton Raman shaping using a relatively high power pump laser.2 An alternative scheme, proposed by Schadt and Jas- korzynska,3 is to make use of cross phase modulation in a single-mode optical fiber.
