Mode-locked diode pumped solid state lasers

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Recent progress in the development of mode-locking of diode-laser pumped solid state lasers such as Nd:YAG and Nd:YLF has led to reexamination of high frequency mode-locking techniques. I describe recent work on the generation of sub 10-ps pulses from these systems using frequency modulation (FM) and amplitude modulation (AM) techniques. The high peak power available from these systems, particularly when mode-locked, gives access to the study of a range of nonlinear optical processes.
