Abstract

The measurement of linear and quadratic electrooptic (EO) constants of poled polycarbonate (PC) film doped with 4-diethylarnino-4′-nitrostiibene (DEANS) using our earlier method1 is reported. DEANS is expected to have a large optical nonlinearity due to a giant permanent dipole moment in the lowest excited singlet state.2 In this method, the film is required to be thin and sandwiched between two semitransparent metal films to form a F.P. cavity.
