ArF Laser ablation of the human cornea: spectrum of the secondary emission

Abstract

The photochemical ablation of the cornea with 193-nm photons from the ArF excimer laser is being used to modify the curvature of the cornea to correct vision defects. This corneal resculpting process inescapably creates light emitted from complex secondary processes attending the ablation; the question naturally follows: Is this light source on the cornea a safety hazard?
