Biological materials probed by the temporal and angular profiles of the backscattered ultrafast laser pulses

Abstract

Time- and angle-resolved backscattering of a 80-fs laser pulse from biological materials have been measured. The phenomenon of weak photon localization has been observed in biological tissues. The angular distribution of the backscattered light intensity shows an enhancement of intensity about the backward direction. The intensity enhancement is due to the coherent interference between the scattered light and its time-reversed counterpart in the random medium.
