Abstract

A simple method for generating short pulses is the use of a short cavity dye laser (SCDL),1 but the resultant shortening factor is limited to 1-10 (Ref. 2) for a picosecond pump pulse. If is difficult to generate pulses near to or shorter than 1 ps with this method.
