Novel saturable absorbers for passive mode locking of a rhodamine 6G dye laser

Abstract

Rhodamine 6G laser dye as a gain medium and 3,3-diethyloxadicarbocyanine iodide (DODCI) as a saturable absorber turn out to be the most advantageous combination for the generation of extremely short (below 30-fs) light pulses in cw passively mode-locked dye lasers (see, e.g., Ref. 1, Table 3). DODCI, however, rapidly deteriorates under illumination or when being stored in contact with the components of the circulating system.
