Performance of a 100-W copper vapor laser as oscillator and amplifier

Abstract

The performance of commercially available copper vapor lasers (CVLs) continues to improve. We report the extension of the average power operating range to above 100 W. This has been achieved due to improvements in head design and switching technology. The laser tubs internal diameter (output beam diameter) has been increased to 60 mm. The electrical power is switched into the discharge using multiple parallel thyratrons so that each thyratron can be less stressed than in some lower power copper lasers.
